I am someone who does earn my income from working at home, and I can tell you right up front there are some traps for those not fully prepared. It certainly is not as glorious as many will tell you, don’t get me wrong I love working from my home.
Working from home allows me to set my own hours that I want to work, work how I want in what I want and of course take time off when I want to. How ever there are some down sides to such working conditions. First is the job security and of course no one ever mentions that word “discipline”. You have to have a very good mind set to adhere to self discipline when working from home.
F you are wanting to have a home based business I would recommend taking some time out to think carefully and if possible talk to some in your locality who is doing just that and ask questions.
The pros for working from home are quite obvious, or at least some are. A normal day would be something like this, up at maybe 10:00am, a lazy breakfast while reading the morning paper for about 20 minutes. A short walk to my office out back, sit down fire up my computer and then do some 5 hours work.
After that I take time off to maybe go for a walk, play my guitar, talk to my wife and listen to what my kids have done during their day. Later in the evening when all is quiet I may do a couple more hours and then call it a night.
The ability to change such a routine is at my command. Working at home allows me to lighten my workload if I feel like it or quite the reverse, do a great deal it time and feelings allow. If I want to go on holidays then that’s allowable as well, so long as I have the money on hand and I can even take my laptop to do as much or as little as I want. I am completely at liberty to do what I want, when I want and where I want.
Now for the downside of such a life style, there are some you know. First and foremost is the question of job security. Whether you work under the contract method or simply have an Internet Marketing business you are subject to the changes of the demands of the outside world.
If you contract you have to compete for work or wait on clients to contact you with work. If your business is Internet Marketing then you have to really stay on top of the latest trends and products. Either of these can really eat up your time particularly when starting out. You can have an at home career but not right away it takes a little time.
Looking at the advantages verses the disadvantages, there is much to be said for working from home. If you have that inbuilt solid self discipline then you are a good candidate for working from home. You can get your work done and avoid the city commute dramas faced by those less disciplined. Think carefully, talk to others and most importantly don’t let yourself slack off.
Who knows one day you may look back and say, why didn’t I do this long ago.
