Make Money through Profitable Niches

The word niche is rather like a pumped-up buzzword on the Internet these days.  Some people breeze right over it.  Others want to dig down and learn what all it entails – especially profitable niches.  Now what could that mean?

If you have any interest at all in making money on the Internet through online marketing, sooner or later, you will need to not only know what niche means, but how to harness the power of profitable niches.

Choosing a Niche

Essentially, when you choose a niche it means you have chosen the right segment of the market that is popular enough to achieve a large sales volume. That sales volume and the profits from it should be able to allow you to build a profitable business from it that will grow and thrive over time.

When selecting the niche that is right for you and for your marketing campaign, this is not the time to follow your passion.  Just because you are interested in a subject or a product, does not mean that whole of the population agrees.  What you are looking for is a hungry segment of the market – people who are willing to spend their hard-earned money to get that product, that service, or that information.

Do Your Research

The most successful way to choose a niche is simply by doing a little online research.  It’s not difficult to learn what people are buying today.  For example, think of the baby boomer age group.  What are they doing these days?  They are traveling (Vacation packages). They are looking for investment opportunities (Forex trading software).  They definitely want to avoid aging (Products like Botox and hair restoration).  See how simple it is?  Begin with a general category and from there narrow it down to a more specific niche.  Categories are endless and can range from raising pet turtles, to how to install wood flooring, to how to succeed at breastfeeding.

Keywords

Once you have a niche in mind, now you can do keyword research.  Online shoppers these days are avoiding malls, parking lots, and long drives.  They are browsing the search engines to find what they are looking for.  To do this they enter a string of words into the search engine and those are called “keywords.”  Make a list of keywords that relate to your niche.  Use a keyword research tool to help you ascertain which of these

keywords are the ones that are most used.  Run searches on your keywords to see who is using them and how popular they are.  What you are looking for are those that have a low number of competition.  You do this by continuing to narrow the niche. Of course this takes time and training, but once you have the concept, it becomes progressively easier.

Your Products or Affiliate Products?

You will need to decide if you are going to sell your own niche product, or go to an affiliate marketing program and use their ready-made products and ad copy.  If you are a rank beginner, it’s best to begin with someone else’s products.  Keep in mind that huge entities, such as Amazon.com, offer affiliate memberships.  Think of the millions of products offered at that site.  Once you move into these areas, you can continue to dig deeper and deeper to find the narrow niche you are looking for.

Will you be building your own web site to promote your niche products?  Or will you create a simple landing page which transports the visitor to the professionally designed website of the affiliate product you have chosen?  There’s no right or wrong way, but what is best for you?  That will depend on your level of marketing and web development expertise.  Begin at the elementary level and work up.

Obscure or Popular?

Some will advise to find niche products that are obscure and sort of off-the-wall.  Others say no, just find a niche that people think they can’t live without and run with it.   Keep in mind that competition is not always a bad thing.  If you work to develop the best marketing methods with your chosen niche, the customers will find you and will purchase what you have to offer.  Especially if you begin to build up an online trust level.

Niche Marketing

Once you have chosen your niche, then of course you will move into the marketing phase of your business.  Niche marketing today means targeting, communicating with, selling to, and obtaining feedback from many buyers of your business’s products or services.  This can involve magazine articles, ads, AdWords, blogs, autoresponder letters and emails, and of course high-content websites.   All of these are effective and the more of them you master, the more successful you will be.

Conclusion

There is certainly no shortage of niches, but it will take time and dedication to find the niche that works best for you and for your needs.  There’s no doubt that niche marketing works because thousands of successful online marketers are making a lot of money from their efforts.  If you do your research, learn from the best, and duplicate their techniques, you too will be making money from profitable niches.
